Rabbit meat

Rabbit

Rabbit meat has had its ups and downs in popularity over the years. Originally it was brought from Europe to America during colonial times as sustainable food for pioneers. Today, it serves as a popular exotic meat and alternative to traditional red meat. Furthermore, it has even proved itself to be a more sustainably farmed animal for our struggling eco-system.

What Does It Taste Like?

Rabbit meat is white, fine grained, and delicately flavored. Many compare it to chicken, although others prefer the comparison to frog legs. Most often they are sold whole, which is how we carry it in our frozen Exotic Meats section. They weigh roughly 3 pounds, typically enough to serve 4-6 people.

We recommend cooking rabbit slow. Specifically, the best methods are roasting in the oven or enjoying it in a stew. However, there are delicious recipes available for crispy fried rabbit as well.
